Alright, so here are a few more details about our weekend...which was seriously so much fun...just check out some of the cool pics :)
Friday morning we departed from Tanjung Malim and made our way to KL where we picked up Joella, another MSU faculty member. She is accompanying the program for the next 10 days. From KL it was a few more hours to Malacca, but we were able to watch movies and everything on the bus...so time just flew by!
In Malacca we stayed in a gorgeous hotel...right on the beach! It had a pool, came with TP, and of course everybody's favorite...hot water in our showers :) It was a relaxing weekend and I know Carrie and I loved the swimming, but don't worry...no somersaults for me this time!
Friday night we went out to dinner...where Carrie, Ashley and I ate an entire Pizza Hut pizza by ourselves! Their medium is the size of a personal pan...not even kidding! So, taking it down really wasn't much of a challenge! Afterwards we were able to do some shopping at a local mall. It was a lot of fun and a nice relaxing end to a busy busy week!
Saturday was busy with a visit to a local university, a historical museum, tuk-tuk rides and mini-Malaysia! At the end of the day we had dinner at a beach restaraunt...chicken fried rice for Carrie and I :)
Sunday it was early to rise so we could make the 3 hour trip to the wedding! We arrived just in time to change into our Baju Karons and eat before the festivities began. It was such a neat experience. The bride and groom get ready at different houses, then the groom walks over to the bride's house with his family following him. She walks out to meet him under a decorated archway and when they meet they kiss eachothers hands. Afterwards, the bride goes back into the house and waits for the groom to take his seat next to her on the stage. As he makes his way to the house he has to pay people to get through. So, Courtney and I blocked him and the look on his face when he saw to white girls blocking him was hysterical! :) He started laughing and was so embarassed to speak English to us!
After the ceremony, everyone took off and I stayed behind with my host family to continue the festivities. They took me to a local park where I got to feed monkeys!!!!!! They were jumping at me and pulling on my skirt, they were so hungry :) I thought about doing my monkey call, but it might have been a different dialect...
Sunday evening my family took me bowling, where I bowled a 73...hehe...oops! This may sound bad, but if you've ever seen me bowl...it was a pretty decent score :)
It's a short week at school this week, and Tuesday we are scheduled to go tubing for our extra-curricular activity...we're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather!
We're leaving Thursday for Penang and the traditional fishing village, and from our itinerary it looks like we will be having another GREAT weekend!
It's hard to believe we'll be home in 11 days...it's been a lot of fun and we are getting sad thinking about going to work everyday and paying taxes...ewwwww...
miss you all bunches :)
