Class time for Sam and Carrie...

Today we were officially welcomed to the study abroad program. All eleven of us were invited to a welcoming ceremony in which they invited the Vice Chancellor of the University Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education. They also invited our home hosts and we all got a chance to meet the people we will be living with next week! It was a very big deal for UPSI to welcome us because we are not only the first study abroad program to UPSI, but the first study abroad program to Malaysia...ever! We were very honored that the Minister of Higher Education could be there and we even got to speak with him after the ceremony! We felt like very important people as they had the national news and the local television station there to record and document the event! We ate lunch with him and several of the other officials of the school and professors who helped set up this program.

We got another taste of the city Tanjong Malim after lunch and went shopping for a while before we had to go to class. Several of us are having fun with the different clothes and shoes here! Stay tuned for some pictures :)

We have class this afternoon with Kurnia in which we can work on some of the many class assignments. Tonight we have a Malaysian traditional dance ceremony to look forward to and then a traditional Malaysian meal of Roti canai.
